China views Armenia a friendly partner in the region and sees prospect to develop economic relations with Armenia in the fields of infrastructures, information technologies and high technologies, Tian Erlong – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Armenia, told reporters before the launch of an international scientific conference dedicated to the 40th anniversary of China’s reforms and opening-up on November 21, reports Armenpress. He said currently Armenia and China have very good relations.

A meeting with Mr. Jun Yamada, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Armenia took place on October 3, 2018 at the Noravank Foundation. On February 21, 2018 Avetik Harutyunyan, President, Union of Young Scientists and Specialists of Artsakh NGO visited the Noravank Foundation. During the meeting with Gagik Harutyunyan, Executive Director of the Noravank Foundation and experts of the Foundation, the parties first presented the main directions and objectives of their respective organizations, and then discussed prospects of cooperation. A memorandum of cooperation was signed as a result.

An expert discussion on Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic (NAR) Studies took place at the Noravank Foundation on February 21, 2018. The keynote speaker, Samvel Manukyan, presented the trends of socioeconomic development in NAR during the last 15 years, the current situation and its evaluation, the existing probems and further reasearch directions.

A seminar titled Interactive Export Map of Armenia took place at the Noravank Foundation on February 16, 2018. The keynote was delivered Dr. Agassy Tavadyan. The speaker presented the patterns of Armenian exports indices, and showed the export-import ratios according to the years. He also spoke about the main markets for the Armenian exports and analyzed the effects of integration processes on exports from Armenia.

The presentation of a monograph titled “Information Security” written by a team of authors as a result of a research conducted at the Noravank Foundation took place on December 27, 2017 at the Foundation. The book is the first Armenian-language fundamental work published in Armenia on the topic of information security.

A seminar titled Azerbaijani and Iranian Policies on Diaspora was organized at the Noravank Foundation on December 18, 2017. Arestakes Simavoryan, Head of the Centre for Armenian Studies at the Noravank Foundation, presented Azerbaijan’s policies on diaspora. He spoke about the emergence and current characteristics of Azerbaijani diaspora, as well government-diaspora cooperation programs. Vahram Hovyan, Senior Expert of the Centre for Armenian Studies at the Noravank Foundation, spoke about the Iranian policy toward diaspora.

A seminar titled Turkey’s Policies on Diaspora was organized at the Noravank Foundation on December 15, 2017. The keynote was delivered by Arestakes Simavoryan, Head of the Centre for Armenian Studies at the Noravank Foundation. He presented the history, geographical distribution and organizational structures of the Turkish diaspora. The speaker then discussed the government-diaspora cooperation in political, economic, scientific and information areas.

Keynote was delivered by Archimandrite Serovbe Chamourlian, Abbot of the Mekhitarist Congregation, and editor of Bazmavep journal. The speaker presented the history of establishment of the Mekhitarist monastery in San Lazzaro degli Armeni, its historical path and achievements, as well as the current situation and problems faced by the congregation.

On November 12 the second lesson of "Issues of Information security" autumn school took place. The presentation was made by the advisor of Foreign Minister of the NKR Hrachya Arzumanyan. The themes of his presentation were as follows: "Non-linear Paradigm of Social Systems: Chaos Theory" and "Net-centris Information Wars". In his report H. Arzumanyan was talking about the modern perception of the world by a human underlining the role of mass media and information technologies which appearance caused new phenomenon, i.e. the mosaic culture of the perception of the world.

Realizing the importance of the education for the development of Armenia and aiming to raise the quality and efficiency of education, on November 6 the Ministry of Education and Science, represented by minister Armen Ashotyan, and “Noravank” Foundation, represented by the executive director Gagik Harutyunyan, signed memorandum of cooperation. Speaking about the memorandum the minister mentioned that there had been no strategic, analytical approaches which would allow understanding the real problems, challenges and the ways of solution, in the sphere of education for many years.

On October 21 the cooperation agreement was concluded between RA SCS and “Noravank” Foundation which aim was to promote the arrangement of research projects examination, the acquisition and exchange of scientific materials. Within the scope of collaboration the assistance will be rendered to the organization, institutes of higher education and persons working in the sphere of humanities, the financial assistance will be rendered to the studies, researches by young scholars chosen through independent examination and on basis of tender.

On October 30 “Noravank” Foundation hosted the director of Foreign Policy Institute of Diplomatic Academy of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Doctor of Political Science Grigori Perepelitsa and the first secretary of Ukraine’s embassy to Armenia Igor Skvortsov. The meeting participants exchanged opinions about the situation and dynamics in South Ossetia after the Georgian-Russian war. G.Pereplitsa presented its forecasts relating to regional conflicts, particularly accentuating new developments in the Karabakh conflict regulating process.

On October 28 in “Noravank” Foundation was held a conference on “Armenian-Turkish relations” participated by guests and foundation co-workers. The conference was organized on the occasion of Fethiye Chetn’s republication of the book “Grandmother.” The book was first published in 2006 (translated by the “Noravank” Foundation expert, senior lecturer of Yerevan State University’s Department of Turkology, PhD Ruben Melkonyan). The conference was honored by the participation of Fethiye Chetin and the brother of “Akos” newspaper’s chief editor Hrant Dink – Yervand Dink. The Foundation Director G.Harutyunyan briefly represented how the idea of the book came true, than Ruben Melkonyan introduced the honorable guest Fethiye Chatin.

12.06.2008 “NORAVAK” LECTURING ARAKS PASHAYAN: “ISLAM IN AZERBAIJAN”
On June 6, within the scheduled series of “Noravank” Foundation lecturing was delivered the lecture of a specialist of Arabic studies, PhD in History, Associate Professor A. Pashayan on “Islam in Azerbaijan.” The lecturer pointed out that Azerbaijan is notable for its peculiar characteristic of Islam and is considered to be a traditional zone of spreading Islam. For about 70% of Muslim population are Shiites, 30% - Sunnis. Azerbaijan is one of the exclusive countries where Shiites make the majority of population: Iran is in the first place to be followed by Azerbaijan, Iraq and Bahrain.

The “Noravank” Foundation has organized a lecture discussion on “World- System after decline of American Hegemony” with participation of 28 experts and students from different fields and conducted by Dr. Derluguian, Associate Professor in Department of Sociology and International Studies at the Northwestern University, USA on May 15 2008. On March 28, 2008 within the framework of the scheduled series of readings “Armenia and Armenians in global developments: recent trends and challenges” in “Noravank” Foundation was held a lecture on “the face of poverty in Armenia: the main tendencies.” The reading was lectured by the RA NAS leading specialist of the institute of Archeology and Ethnography, the head of the coordination-information center of “Noravank” Foundation and the Doctor of Historical Science Harutyun Marutyan. On February 18 of the current year in “Noravank” Foundation was hosted the deputy of the Georgian Parliament Hamlet Movsisyan. He represented the general situation in the country after the presidential elections and than touched upon the problems of the Armenians in Javakhq. On September 3 of the current year in “Noravank” Foundation was held a seminar on the subject “Iran and regional developments.” The seminar was participated by the Deputy Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Armenia Ali Akbar Jowkar, a number of representatives from different higher educational institutions and scientific centers from Iran. In the stage of preparing for the conference the experts of “Noravank” made an attempt to calculate how many Armenian communities there were in the post Soviet territory and found out that there were at least 117 communities. At the same time, according to our experts, 117 is quite an approximate number. I’ll dare to express an opinion that our expert community doesn’t know the exact number of Armenian communities spread all over the world. Moreover, we are not quite aware of the processes and developments progressing in the communities. One should only mention that the last conference devoted to Armenian communities was held for about 20 years ago.

On June 19-20 of the current year “Noravank” Foundation in cooperation with Caucasus Media Institute and “Yerkir” Union for repatriation and settlements NGOs organized “Armenian communities in the present stage: struggle for survival and perspectives” international scientific-practical conference. The Conference was held with the participation of Armenian scientific and expert centers, representatives of diplomatic corps and mass media, specialists of the Armenian Diaspora, freelance researchers.

On June 22 of the current year in “Noravank” Foundation was held a seminar on the subject “The Czech Armenian Community in the past and at present.” The speaker, in the face of “Noravank” Foundation’s expert Khachatur Dadayan, mentioned about the study of Armenian communities conducted by the Foundation, a component part of which was the Armenian community of Czechia. The speaker represented the life and activity of the son of Astvacatur Georgius Deodatus Damascenus (in Czech sources Jiri Deodat) who lived and worked in Czechia in the 18th century.
07.06.2007 The analysts of International crisis group in “Noravank”
On June 5 of the current year the International Crisis Group resentatives, the senior analyst on Caucasian issues Claire Delessard and the analyst L. Zurabian, made a visit to “Noravank” Foundation. The meeting was held by the participance of the Executive Director G. Harutyunyan, the Head of “Political analyses” S. Harutyunyan and the Expert A. Pashayan. 26.04.2007 Syria and developments in the Middle East
On April 20, 2007 in “Noravank” foundation was held a seminar on the subject “Syria and development in the Middle East”. The main speaker of the seminar was the embassy consultant of Syrian Arabic Republic in the Republic of Armenia, Vail Derki. Both, experts of “Noravank” Foundation and specialists from other scientific and expert centers took part in the meeting. As it is known Syria is one of the countries who landed a helping hand and gave a refugee to the Armenians who fled away from the Genocide of 1915.
30.03.2007 The Iraqi community faces challenges
On March 30, 2007 a seminar on “Up to date problems of the Iraqi community” was held in “Noravank” Foundation. In his opening speech the director of the Foundation Gagik Harutyunyan attached special importance to the research referring to Diaspora. He pointed out that the Foundation scientifically and practically studies up-to-date social political processes in communities. The main speaker at the meeting, the leader of the Armenian community in Iraq, Paruir Hakobyan, in his speech outlined the problems the Iraqi community had faced since 2003, after the occupation of Iraq by the US and the collapse of Saddam Hussein’s regime.
26.03.2007 On the 25th of March Andranik Margaryan unexpectedly passed away
On the 25th of March the Head of “Noravank” Foundation’s Board of Trustees, the Chairman of RPA, the Prime Minister of RA Andranik Margaryan unexpectedly passed away. Andranik Markarian was born on June 12, 1951 in Yerevan. Andranik Margaryan graduated from the Department of Cybernetics of Yerevan Polytechnic Institute, as a computer engineer (1972). Since 1968 he was a member of the illegally functioning United National Party, since 1973, he was a Board member of the UNP. Since 1992, he has been a member of the Republican Party of Armenia, the first party registered in the RA, which was the ideological successor of the UNP.

On January 19 in “Noravank” Foundation was held a seminar on “Ideological factor in geopolitical developments”. The reporter of the seminar was the director the institute “Hayk”- Babken Vardanyan. On December 15, 2006 in “Noravank” Foundation was held a seminar on the subject of “Cultural globalization and cultural identity”. Hrach Bayadyab was the speaker of the seminar. H. Bayadyan pointed out that globalization supposes formation of global culture, which may be elite and mass. Most of the researchers consider cultural globalization to be the manifestation of Americanization and mcdonaldization of the world’s culture. From the other hand, it is spoken about localization of culture and its complicated and unpredictable process.

On November 27, 2006 “Noravank” Foundation hosted the president of the Center for Strategic Research of Islamic Republic of Iran and the consultant of Iran’s president Ali Reza Zaqer, the senior expert of the same center Qazem Zade and the expert Ali Yakubi. At the meeting with the participation of “Noravank” Foundation’s director G. Harutyunyan, the experts S. Sarukhanyan, S. Harutyunyan and A. On October 20, 2006 a seminar devoted to Armenia’s energy security was held in “Noravank” Foundation. The main reporter, the first deputy General director and the chief engineer of “Armosgasprom” Ashot Hovsepyan, raise the question of constructing Iran-Armenia gas pipeline. An expert council meeting was held in “Noravank” Foundation on September 19, 2006. The deputy ambassador pointed out that Iran made an official announcement, that thanks to its scientists Iran gained a chance to get nuclear energy. According to him Iran has that right, since the country is the member of NPT (non-proliferation treaty) and assumes its obligations. Many other countries which are not NPT members and don’t have any obligations carry out a nuclear problem. In particular, Israel has more then 200 warheads, but, as the speaker pointed out, it is not the matter of any concern.

On January 26 “Noravank” Foundation hosted “Institute of honesty” NGO to get acquainted with the results of the public opinion pall carried out by the letter on “weather the Armenian society trusts the authorities”. At the seminar held on the 24th of November in “Noravank” foundation were discussed the latest shifts in RF government and the possible ways of development in Russia’s political system in the nearest future. On the 13th of October in “Noravank” foundation took place a seminar on “Armenian’s present situation in the Northern Caucasus”. The speech was delivered by the foundation’s expert and candidate of historical science Arsen Hakobyan. The speaker presented his observations concerning to the Armenians’ present situation in a number of regions in the Northern Caucasus (Kabardino-Balkaria, Stavropol territory, etc.). A. On the 7th of October in “Noravank” foundation took place a seminar on “education organizing problems”. The reporter was the candidate of physical and mathematical science, assistant professor, and corresponding member of the RF Academy of social and pedagogic sciences, research fellow of RA National educational institute Manuk Mkrtchyan. On the 15th of June in Noravank Foundation took place a meeting with the experts in international relations Richard Giragosyan(USA) and Khatchik Derghoukassyan (Argentina).
