NORAVANK LECTURING TAMARA VARDANYAN: “THE ARMENIAN COMMUNITY IN TBILISI: CHALLENGES AND RESOURCES”

Tamara_Vardanyan (medium) On April 25 of the current year within the framework of the scheduled series of readings “Armenia and Armenians in global developments: recent trends and challenges” in “Noravank” Foundation was held a lecture of Tamara Vardanyan on the subject “The Armenian community in Tbilisi: challenges and resources.”

The lecturer mentioned that the Armenian presence in Tbilisi has a rich history. “Over the centuries the Armenians were the active and creative component of the Georgia capital.” That’s why the Armenians in Tbilisi are proud to stress up their role in founding the Grorgian state. During the lecture were also presented some demographic data: according to the official census returns of the population there are for about 250.000 Armenians in Georgia, the considerable part of which (for about 82.000) are inhabited in Tbilisi.

The reporter also touched upon the problem of inter-ethnic Armenian-Georgian relations in Tbilisi and in the republic in general, the issue of the identity of the Atmenians in Tbilisy and the possible policy of the Republic of Armenia carried out to preserve and increase the Armenian community in Tbilisi.
