TURKMEN OF IRAQ IN PAST AND AT PRESENT

On September 6 seminar on “Turkmen of Iraq in Past and at Present” was held at “Noravank” Foundation.

The lecture was delivered by the orientalist Tigran Yekavian (Paris). He presented the main problems Turkmen in Iraq had in the past and they have today. In particular, he referred to the policy of the regional states carried out in regard to the Turkmen living in the north of Iraq, possible developments of ties between Turkmen, Turks and Azerbaijanis. The lecture also presented in details the importance of Turkmen factor for the policy of Turkey in the Middle East, as well as the attitude of the states of the region and those states, which are interested in that region, towards this issue. The lecture was founded on the field researches.
