THREE ARMENIANS ELECTED TO FRENCH PARLIAMENT
Posted on June. 23. 2017
Three ethnic Armenians were elected to the French National Assembly in the June 18 run-off, Grigor Amirzayan, a French-Armenian journalist and cartoonist, said Monday.
“Jacques Marilosian, Daniel Kazaryan and Guillaume Gasbarian have been elected. All the three are from President Macron’s Forward, Republic! party,” he told Tert.am.
Amirzayan, who heads the Paris-based association Armenia, noted that it is the first ever time Armenians win seats in the country’s top legislative party.
The run-off in the parliamentary election on Sunday featured four Armenian contenders. Pascal Shamasian, who challenged Valerie Boyer in one of the constituencies, lost the election to the Socialist candidate (who is known as a strong advocate of the Armenian Genocide recognition).
