ISLAM IN AZERBAIJAN: THE PAST AND PRESENT
Araks PashayanThe monograph represents an attempt to explore issues related to Islam in internal and external policies of Azerbaijan. The role of Islam in the country’s societal, political and social life, peculiarities of “Azerbaijani Islam”, external Islamic influences (especially Turkish, Iranian and Arab) and their significance in Azerbaijan, as well as support from Organisation of Islamic Cooperation to Azerbaijan in relation to the Karabakh conflict are covered in general terms. Peculiarities of “Tsarist Era Islam” and “Soviet Era Islam” are also discussed.
