“THERE WON’T BE A THIRD WORLD WAR…”
“Hayern Aysor”’s correspondent sat down for an interview with analyst, journalist for Expert magazine of Moscow, Gevorg Mirzayan, who was one of the participants of the Pan-Armenian Conference of Political Scientists and International Relations Experts.
“Hayern Aysor”: Mr. Mirzayan, your speech sparked great interest among the participants of the conference, and many participants touched upon your topic and raised their issues of concern…Which of our so-called neighboring countries do you think the Arab Spring will favor the most?
Gevorg Mirzayan: Thank you for your opinion of my speech. Allow me to touch upon the topic related to the “Arab Spring”. It mainly favors the “monarchs” of the Near East, meaning they planned it all. It would have favored Turkey, if the country didn’t overestimate its resources. But Turkey didn’t analyze the situation correctly. If Syria falls, Iran will find itself in a completely strategic blockade. If Iran falls under pressure, then all the southern parts of Iran, including Azerbaijan, will take action (Aliyev has big plans, and the only country standing in his way is the Islamic Republic of Iran). If Aliyev manages to integrate those sectors, I think the West will support him and we will see the typical super-ethnos Azerbaijan in that region. But in that situation, Russia won’t be able to save Armenia.
“Hayern Aysor”: Mr. Mirzoyan, how long will the “Arab Spring” last?
G. M.: I think it will take long because there are many entities that will be subject to that “Spring” after Syria, including Jordan and Algeria. The king of Jordan is leading a very correct policy, but Jordan is a weak country. It’s not the Jordan that we knew after WWII. I repeat-if Iran falls, that will be a catastrophe for Armenia. Iran is Azerbaijan’s real enemy and Armenia’s real friend. Iran and Azerbaijan can never b on good terms due to Aliyev’s policy.
“Hayern Aysor”: Do you think Azerbaijan will unleash a war?
G. M.: No, the West won’t let Azerbaijan unleash a war just yet. The West has become actively involved in Azerbaijan’s economy and doesn’t wish to see the tubes passing through Azerbaijan’s territory at risk. The West won’t want to have a conflict with Russia. Russia protects its interests in the South Caucasus, and its interest in the region is the solidarity with Armenia. The war won’t favor Turkey either because it also doesn’t want to have problems with Russia. Turkey drew the right conclusions after the war in Georgia.
“Hayern Aysor”: Don’t you think the Muslim world will start the Third World War? Don’t the military operations in the Near East mark the beginning of that?
G. M.: No, I don’t think there will be a Third World War.
