The Many Faces of Noravank

Not long ago was launched a DVD “The Many Faces of Noravank” by the support of the Chairman of the Republic of Armenia’s Central Bank Dr.Tigran Sargsyan and with a generous grant from UNIBANK. The photographs featured in the DVD are the work of Der Sahak kahana, Martirosyan, the spiritual father of Noravank.
According to the historical Stepanos Orbelian, the history of Noravank Dates back to as early as the 4th and 5th centuries, where the churches of St. Karapet and St. Pokas existed on the site. Bishop Hovhannes moved to St Karapet in the early years of the 12th century and quickly developed the area into a monastery.
Both inside and outside of the walls of the monastery are remnants of chapels, tombs and other monuments among then one can locate the tomb of the renowned sculpture and manuscript artist Momig and that of the historian Stepanos Orbelian.
For many centuries, Noravank has symbolized national unity, aspiration of freedom and protection of the Armenian Apostolic faith, serving as the cradle of Armenian culture, educational, architectural and spiritual revival.
