SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE DEVOTED TO THE 60TH ENNIVERSARY OF REPATRIATION IN 1946-1948

   

Picture 310 (medium) On December 13-14 by the initiative of the RA Ministry of Diaspora, the Institute of Science (RA Academy of science) and “Noravank” foundation was held an international scientific conference in Tsakhkadzor on the subject “Repatriation of 1946-1948 and its lessons: the problem of repatriation today” devoted to the 60th anniversary of mass repatriation of late forties of the last century.

At the conference reports were made by famous scientists and social figures from Armenia and Diaspora such as Amatuni Virabyan, Ashot Melkonyan, Edward Melkonyan, Petros Hovhannisyan, Yuri Avetisyan, Harutyun Marutyan (“Noravank” Foundation), Gevorg Yazichyan, Khachik Ter-Ghukasyan (Argentina), Rubina Pirumyan (USA), Alber Achemyan (Iran), Varvara Margaryan (RF) and others. The repatriates of 1946-1948 and the ones of our days shared with their memories. The Minister of the RA Diaspora also made a report.

Reports and discussions were touching upon the issues of historical comprehension of mass repatriation of 1946-1948, mistakes made during repatriation; significance and consequences of Repatriation for Armeniancy; historiography, geography and demography of Repatriation; the role of Armenian Apostolic Church, All-Armenian Charity Union and traditional Armenia parties (ARFD, “Ramkavar-Azatakan,” and social-political party “Hnchak”); Stalin’s repressions towards repatriates; adaptation and integration of repatriates into the Armenian society etc. Reports and discussions connected with up-to-datedness were devoted to tendencies and problems of repatriation in the present day Diaspora; publications on the subject repatriations in the press of Diaspora; integration of the Armenians from Diaspora into Armenia; problems of easter-Armenian and western-Armenian languages; legal groundings of repatriation; policy of the RA towards stimulating repatriation; Israeli experience of repatriation and absorption and other actual problems.
