
The opening of the Armenian branch of the Institute of CIS Countries
The formation of the new independent states has made it desirable to give scientific explanation to their making, development, working out a general theory furthering the CIS integration, as well as studying bilateral and multilateral relations among them. In 1996 all these made a ground to found the Institute of CIS states in Moscow – the first Moscow based scientific foundation aiming at studying solely the Post-Soviet area.
During its existence the Institute has conducted a number of researches devoted to up-to-date political and economic life in the new states of Caucasia, including Armenia. The Institute’s research workers have been carrying on the monitoring of Nagorni Karabakh conflict, they periodically appear in the mass media for the international recognition of NKR independence.
Since 2005 the Institute has been busy with opening its branch in Armenia. Today this work has drawn to its close. Last year the branch was officially registered in Yerevan and the opening of the House of Moscow in the Armenian capital has solved the problem the of the office branch location.
The branch was set up with the purpose to study Armenia’s home and foreign policy, as an assistance to preserve and develop the ties with Russia, intergovernmental and interregional cooperation in the economic, political, military and cultural spheres, organization and support to the Russian language and culture, determination of possible ways of reciprocation of investments, popularization of the idea of integrating CIS countries in the Russian and international public opinion.
The Institute is engaged in holding monitoring, scientific-research, expert-analytical, sociological and subject works on analyzing, working out and interpreting normative-legal, economic, social-political and other kind of information, generalization and elaboration of scientific basing and recommendations on the subject of corresponding researches, definite state orders, city organs, undertakings and organization and contracts; issuing of scientific reports, works on the conducted researches as ell as realization of advertising and editorial-publishing activity.
The branch director was appointed Markarov Aleksandr Aleksandrovich, the head of the Yerevan State University’s International Cooperation Department and the candidate of philosophy.
