Presidential elections in Nagorno-Karabakh Republic: a view from Yerevan

On June 3, 2007 in the analytical center “Caucasus” took place the round table discussion on the subject of “Presidential elections in Nagorno-Karabakh Republic: a view from Yerevan”.

At the discussion took part Alexsander Manasyan (the Chairman of the Department of Philosophy and Logics, Yerevan State University), Levon Melik-Shahnazaryan (“De-Facto” Informational Agency), Shushan Khatlamajyan (ISCRD), Sergey Minasyan (Caucasus Media Institute), Sargis Harutyunyan (“Noravank” Foundation), the chairman of the Armenian Democratic Party Aram G. Sargsyan, the authorized representative of the candidate for NKR president Masis Mayilyan, Editor-in-chief of the “Demo” newspaper Gegham Baghdasaryan.

The coming presidential elections in NKR were mainly discussed in the context of internal-political developments and in that sense a special stress was put both on holding elections coinciding with democratic criteria and the further formation of NKR political system. It is noteworthy that at the discussions relating to the coming elections in Karabakh almost nothing was said about regional developments connected with the issue.
